About Myself

Hey everyone, my name is James Arnold and I am the guy behind Horizon Machine Works. I am 18 years old, currently a senior in high school, and I have been making knives in the corner of my garage for about 4 years now.

I have always been into making things, whether it was folding origami as a child, the occasional woodworking project on my own or with my dad, building and modifying plastic Gundam model kits, or teaching myself how to use various 3D modeling softwares including SketchUp and Autodesk Fusion 360.

I started knifemaking back in 2020 when school was shut down and I had a lot of time on my hands. I began watching youtube videos on simple knifemaking with old hand files and thought to myself, “This looks easy to try”. Little did my 14 year old self know that I would be diving into the deepest rabbit hole yet.

Ever since, I have been obsessed with it, drawing inspiration from my favorite makers and design styles, while also honing my skills with each knife I make and developing my own personal design taste and style. I don’t know what the future holds for me in terms of college or career, but I aim to keep learning and making knives along with whatever I decide. I appreciate the support you all give, because I personally think that the community and feedback that makes up the knife community is the absolute best part of being able to share my work with every one of you.
